I give you permission to go ahead and laugh!

Once and awhile a good laugh at yourself is a good thing.  Yup, a real good thing.  Laughter is good like a medicine.  So today I give you permission to laugh at me.

What do you get when you put together a new pool, a crazy mama and good intentions?  You get a few days on the couch and hobbling around on a crutch!

It all started when my sweet husband found a wonderful deal on Craigslist for a swimming pool for our family.  It’s just perfect for us…3 feet deep and 12 feet across. Enough water for even adults to enjoy, but shallow enough for all my littles (except the baby, of course).  Daddy and the children got it all set up and filled, and Daddy made a gate off the back deck to step down right into the pool via the ladder.  Notice I said step down.

This is while the pool was still being filled up a couple of days before.

Well, I had told dh that I was not getting in this particular day, wanting to let the water warm up a few days first.

Well, I changed my mind.

They were all having such a good time out there splashing and playing-

and I decided to surprise them-

and be a fun mom…

So I changed my clothes, asked mom to hold my baby, and gracefully climbed into the pool to the squeals of delight from my children went dashing across the deck, and hurled into the water.

The three feet of water.

I sure surprised them alright…yup, sure did. And I surprised myself by hitting the bottom of the pool straight legged.  HARD.  It felt like my shins instantly bent with the shock.

I am so not living this down.  Can I be a hero for good intentions?

Within a few minutes it became clear that I could not put any weight on my right foot, but thankfully no bad swelling, indicating a sprain instead of a break.  So I have been on the couch a few days, experimenting on learning how to use a crutch and laughing at myself.

Just for the record...this is not me.

Laughing at yourself…you should try it sometime.

And I did make a memory…just sayin’.

Ok, your turn to share something that you laugh at yourself with. Leave me a comment!

  1. and…I saw the whole thing, he he he he……

  2. he he he! I’m the one thats supposed to be accident prone not you!!! I can just see you flying across the porch and slinging yourself in to your pool!

  3. My graceful move included my boarder collie, and leash and me on the bike. We were going at a pretty good speed. I was careful to leave the leash loose on my little finger so as not to be lead by my eager dog! We were a team, getting rid of his extra energy and me getting a bit of fresh air. We approached the house after a mile of flying. I was so relieved that I didn’t kill myself or get myself run-over, that I lost concentration. Sweet dog went to the left rather quickly to get to the front door, over curb, grass, lunging, happy to be home. With his weight I realized I had been pulling to the right to counter his strength.
I went flying into the middle of the road. It was amazing ,for about 3 seconds I felt air-born.
I hit pretty hard. Thankfully my husband was at the study window and saw the entire thing. Everyone came out to help. We have had many laughs since at the escapade. What was I thinking??? I cracked my tibia and had a velcro brace for about 6 weeks. It didn’t stop me from sewing though!

  4. I did a crazy thing once and jumped out of the car to save my in-laws little doggy from my husband who was desperately trying to get the car up the iced over driveway. I didn’t want the dog to get ran over. I don’t know why I thought I could do that??? I immediately fell and landed on my elbow and broke it! Big Ouch!…and no laughing matter at the time. But I laugh now at my stupidity! Ha! (:>)

  5. We laugh at my mom all the time. One summer she accidentally put glue in her ears instead of swimmer’s ear. Another year, at the time my mom was working in the school kitchen, we had the kind of lunch tables that stand up when they are not in use. She accidentally hit one of them some how and caused a domino effect, and it happen to be when we were in chapel. I turned around thinking oh that’s got to be my mom and sure enough it was. That’s just some of the things we laugh about. 🙂

  6. Good for you FUN MOMMY! ha! Sorry for the sprain, but happy to hear it was because of a spontaneous moment of free spirited joy! 🙂
    Gotta love it!
    Laughing WITH you.
